Tarragona is the largest city of the Costa Daruda and is the capital of the province of the same name. It is a costal city in the Autonomous Community of Catalonia. It is the most southerly of the Spanish cities and lies at a distance of about 98 kms from the capital: Barcelona.
The climate of the region is temperate Mediterranean. The weather is pleasantly mild. In winter it is between 7ºC to 10ºC. In the summers it’s not too hot with the maximum temperatures not above 26ºC. The rainfall occurs mainly in spring and autumn.
Tarragona is one of the most historical cities of Spain. It is also one of the most overlooked destinations in Spain. The
It was first colonized by the Phoenicians. The Romans arrived here around 2nd C. They had named it “Tarraco” and established a military and political headquarter here. Thus Tarraco became the biggest Spanish capital of the Roman era. It was the most important city of the times because of its port. The whole region is sprinkled with numerous monuments and historical buildings. There are so many of them in here that you can’t help but bump into one on a normal walk through the city. The city is almost like a living museum. Among them the cyclopean city walls, the Roman Amphitheatre and Torre dels Escipions are just some of the sites to be visited.
