Tarragona Tourist Information - Amposta in Tarragona

This is a very traditional town on the banks of the river Ebro.  We can see the remains of its medieval past in the ruins such as the remains of a castle from those times. Also, throughout the town, you will get to see striking examples of modernist architecture: the Casa Fabregues being one of them. The grand suspension bridge spanning the Ebro was built in 1919; it is an engineering feat. The tower of ‘La Carrova’ is worth a visit. Located on the river banks, it acted as a protective structure for the estuary. The hermitage of Santa Maria del Montisa – where a major pilgrimage is held every year- can also be visited.

Amposta is also a popular destination because it is situated near the Ebro Delta Nature Reserve. It is considered to be one of the most important wetlands in the region. It is made up of salty lagoons and channels and attracts a lot of bird species. The best way to explore and enjoy the natural beauty of the reserve is by a boat tour. It can be boarded at the river port DeltEbro. There are guided tours where information about the river and the history of the park is given. You can also hire a boat and go off on the tour on your own.
