Salou was an important port city for the Greeks and the Romans; and in 1229, Jaime I set out from this port to conquer Mallorca. After the railway arrived here in 1865, new avenues for development were opened for the region.

Today, Salou is the tourist capital of the region, with outstanding facilities for the entertainment and accommodation of the tourists.
Salou has a wonderful coastline of beautiful beaches and hidden coves, the shimmering translucent waters of the Mediterranean, and the best of climate in the region. Located on the Cabo de Salou, it is just a few kilometers away from Tarragona.
The main street of the town- the Salou Promenade – is the meeting point for tourists and locals alike. This picturesque promenade is surrounded by plush tourist complexes, and some of the best examples of modernist architecture. The tower of “Cal Bonet” and the monument raised in remembrance of Jaime I, and the old railway station are all worth a visit. You can take a tour of a 16th century building- “Torre Vella” which now houses interesting exhibits, and cultural events of the region.

Port Aventura Theme Park

The main highlight is the port Aventura theme park. There are various types of thrilling rides, shows, and a grand fireworks display every evening.
